Vinayakrao Patwardhan (1898-1975) - In Memoriam - LP published in India in 1976

Last year we posted already on his 40th anniversary recordings by the artist from a private collection here and here. In 2011 we had posted a set of two cassettes Echoes from the Glorious Past with one track by the artist.

Thank you for this!

It's not often that EMI has to thank a private collector for the tapes of an album. It appears he did not have a discography which was on a par with his abilities.

I look forward to listening to this LP over the next week.

Thank you Richard. As far as I know he had only one LP during his lifetime, together with the other great singer of the Gwalior Gharana of that time: Narayanrao Vyas, but many 78 rpm records. I have the music of that LP, but unfortunately not the LP itself.

Tawfiq Saab, thank you for this awesome treasure. Truly remarkable listen. If 78rpm LPs are on cassette, may i request you share them too ? Many Many thanks for sharing this timeless recording. Respect.

Thanks. I have a couple of those on two different CDs, together with other material. I will post them - God willing - in the future, though not in the near one.

I know several collectors (and a few 78rpm restorers) who might have some access to a few of his 78s. My first stop will be to ask Jonathon Ward of the wonderful blog "Excavated Shellac" and then Robert Millis might have some as well.

If I can manage to get anything at all I will let you know. I wonder if the gentleman who donated these recordings to EMI has any more (or more probably, whether his family/estate might have some more).
.thanks so much for the great music Tawfiq!

Dear Richard, that would be great. I have - already digitized - about 10 78rpm records, partly EPs of 6 minutes. Some might be duets with Narayanrao Vyas, mostly from the 1950s. I have to check. They are from the collection of a friend. I don't know if he has the original records or just copies from other collectors. They are on two different privately made CDs which have other material as well: a double CD of old singers of the Gwalior Gharana, one CD containing the LP from 1967 of Vinayakrao & Narayanrao plus some 78rpms & EPs by both singers, I guess.
