As the great Sitar and Vichitra Veena master Ustad Mohammad Shareef Khan Poonchwale (1926-1980) has still not got the attention by music lovers he deserves and especially his mastery over the difficult and rare Vichitra Veena is very little known, we post here some recordings, orginally posted by Dr. Ashfaq Ali Khan (Holistic Khan) in his wonderful treasure troves on esnips and mediafire. The original folders don't seem to be available anymore in the internet. Earlier we posted the only Vichitra Veena LP by the artist here.
1. Raga Aimen (31:23)
2. Raga Darbari (18:16)
3. Pilu Thumri (13:05)

Really amazing !!!
ReplyDeleteThese are not my rips. In effect they never have been published commercially. They must be from private tapes, probaly recorded from radio broadcasts. I found these files somewhere in the internet years ago and put them together in a post devoted to Vichitra Veena by this great musician. As the source so the result. You don't seem to understand that all depends on the source material. If the source is for example an Indian LP which by nature has already when it was brandnew a lot of surface noise (I guess that is what you call clipping) the rip will have this too. I never clean recordings. I leave it the needs of every individual to clean the recordings if they feel the need. I myself prefer them as they are.
ReplyDeleteBesides anlyzing them do you appreciate at all the music itself?!?
ReplyDeleteThe most amazing and wonderful collection of music and (annotations to it) that one cannot
ReplyDeletefind anywhere else! Thank you for sharing the music, your knowledge and your love of this music.
