Miya Shamsuddin Faridi Desai passes away in Delhi

Miya Shamsuddin Faridi Desai, amongst the last surviving Beenkars, passed away in Delhi at 10:00 am IST on August 16, 2011 after a brief illness. He was the son and disciple of Ustad Mohammad Khan Faridi Desai, a prominent Beenkar of yesteryears, associated with several princely states of Gujarat.
Miya Shamsuddin served a major part of his life as a Been and Sitar player with the All India Radio Orchestra, and acquired an international following as a Beenkar after his retirement. His CDs of Been performances have been published by Makar Records, France, and India Archive Music Ltd., New York.

thanks Tawfiq for this. sad news. i enjoy the few commercial recordings that I've heard. it's been a bit of a bad month for losing the older masters. following rmic it seems like we're losing one a week :-(
ReplyDeletethanks tawfiq iam amaan quadri miyan shamsuddin faridi desai was my grand father even i did not have this recording of khansaheb thak you so much he was the last senior emperor of been.but still we have not lost it all my uncle zahid khan faridi son of khansaheb is a leading beenkar and my another uncle nasir khan faridi is a leading sitar player of kirana ghara and only player of gauharbani style.and you can enjoy their recordings on youtube and their been sitar jugalbandi aswell.which has never been done before.
ReplyDeletemiyan shamsuddin faridi was not only an artist but a great sufi saint who all his life disguise mimself as an artist from very early life he was into sprituality i tell you story1985 in mathura while he was playing one black cobra snake came and set quietly started listening his music and when people noticed his presence they killed the snake immediately then he stop playing and said to people why did you kill the snake he came to listen my music then people realize that they have mad a mistake

saints like Shaik Kalimula and Baba Qutubuddin Bhaktiar Kaki in DELHI INDIA

ReplyDeleteThe link works perfectly. As by now everybody should know perhaps, Rapidshare limited its public traffic as of 27th of november 2012. So if the message comes up that the public traffic is exhausted you just have to wait till next morning (European time as Rapidshare is based in Switzerland).
