Many thanks for that - the Bhimpalasi is extraordinary - seemingly simple but powerful...

I can't tell you how happy I am to have found your blog, I've been looking for this recording for a while. Thanks so much.

Thanks a lot for these great sitar records, Tawfiq! I'm happy to see that a piece like the Sufiana Rang was included here; its not in every record that we get to hear the artist performing a piece other than the main ragas.

Thanks are due for your presentation as well. Its truly a pleasure to receive these with the sleeves and the labels scanned.

i'm looking for info on Soofiana and Farghana? Time of day, rasa, etc. My 3-vol. "Raga Nidhi" books, which may or may not be horrible or wonderful but are what I have, don't mention either -- even trying various other spellings.
Thanks!
=)

Hi,
just read the liner notes. You probably will not find more infos. Soofiyana Rang is not a Raga, just a piece of music inspired by the Sufi music going back to Ameer Khusrau, that is Qawwali.
Raga Ferghana is very rarely performed. Perhaps someone who has more knowlege of Ragas comes in with some more info.
Best
Tawfiq

thanks -- i forgot all about that. more often than not, the scan of the liners is so lo-res that it can't actually get blown-up and read. isn't that silly? how could i forget that this is not a blog like the rest? thanks for the info, hahaha, and for today's new axample of his playing...
